OCTOBER 2018
Thirteen NAMI Washtenaw volunteers and supporters gathered on Belle Isle on a chilly September 22 to participate in the 2018 NAMIWalks fundraiser. Across from the James Scott Memorial Fountain, the Washtenaw Walkers fell in step with volunteers from NAMI affiliates across southeastern Michigan to make their way around the park and raise money for NAMI Washtenaw.
At the end of the walk they were joined by Mark Creekmore and Ed Diehl, whose fundraising effort involved bicycling from Ann Arbor to Belle Isle and back. Bicyclists and walkers were then treated to box lunches provided by Ava Gardner, sister of NAMI Washtenaw’s executive director, Judy Gardner. Including money raised by “virtual walkers,” NAMI Washtenaw has raised over $7,500, an amount that may grow as donations continue coming in.
