Wanted: Newsletter Editor for NAMI Washtenaw County

NOVEMBER 2019

BY LOIS MAHARG

This is the last newsletter I’ll be editing for NAMI Washtenaw County. I’ve worked on “Connections” for four years and now I plan to continue volunteering for NAMI in other ways.

Serving as volunteer editor and reporter has been lots of fun. It’s given me a taste of NAMI’s many different programs and projects. It’s also acquainted me with lots of intelligent, caring people who are committed to improving the lives of people with mental health conditions and their families. In addition, I’ve been able to do most of the work at home, an aspect of the job that fits in with the other activities in my life. But it’s time for someone with a fresh perspective to take over now.

So NAMI WC is looking for a volunteer editor (or editors) for its quarterly newsletter. Here are the main tasks this job entails:

  • Soliciting stories and articles from NAMI volunteers and editing them
  • Writing stories about NAMI events, programs and projects
  • Taking (or acquiring) photos to run with articles and stories
  • Posting articles and photos on the NAMI Washtenaw website

Another NAMI volunteer currently compiles these stories and photos into a newsletter and sends it out via MailChimp. Knowing how to run MailChimp “campaigns” would also be a plus for the new editor (although now it is not necessary). If you’re interested in becoming newsletter editor or helping with editorial tasks, please contact Patricia Doyle at volunteers@namiwc.org or 313-510-9333.
