In case you missed it, NAMI Washtenaw County now sells merch. All merch sales help support our free mental health programs. In addition to our “Stronger Together” design, we now offer products that read “Take Time to Grow.” This new design was created by artist and NAMI volunteer KD. We spoke to KD about their experience with NAMI and the inspiration behind the design.
- How would you describe your experience with NAMI WC? KD: I began my involvement with NAMI in 2024 and my experience has been filled with learning a lot about mental health resources for the community from very nice volunteers at the association.
- What kind of art do you usually create, and what should people know about your work? I will try any type of art I can get my hands on, but generally you can find me illustrating characters digitally or punch needling projects for friends and family.
- What made you choose the phrase “Take Time to Grow” for your design? Why is this message important to you? It can apply to anyone going through a tough time, offering a bit of encouragement and a reminder that it’s okay to take things slow and let yourself grow at your own pace.
- Can you explain the meaning and inspiration behind your design and how it relates to mental health and/or NAMI? The design functions as a simple reminder that, like a flower, mental health growth takes time. It’s like how flowers take their time to bloom and become pretty. Similarly, we need time to improve our mental health, and NAMI is always working to help the community nurture their minds.
- Where can people learn more about your artwork? I’d be happy to share info about my artwork. If interested in learning more about KD’s artwork, please reach out to our Content Curator Paige at psheffield@namiwc.org
